The Clay Target Shooting took place at the Hutt Valley Clay Target Club in Whitemans Valley on Saturday, October 7th. It is frequently one of the Business Games most popular events – this year we had 28 teams taking part.
For the second year in a row at Clay Target we were unlucky to get wet weather. It didn’t deter our Pool A teams from showing up nice and early at 8:30am. After taking some practice shots, teams were underway at 9:30am. Two teams, Datacom and Wellington City Council, both posted good scores of 23 (total hits from 36 shots) to lead the pool, however they were unlikely to contend for the podium as scores of at least 25 are usually needed to win a medal.
In Pool 2, Civil Aviation Authority were on the mark despite the increasingly inclement weather. CAA posted an excellent total of 29 to take the overall lead. Not far behind were Datacom 8 on 25 points.
The rain showed no sign of relenting during Pool 3 action. Kiwirail were in superb form and looked on track to exceed CAA’s total, however, a few crucial misses meant they ended up with 27 and 2nd place overall.
Well done to Civil Aviation for winning their first Business Games gold and to all teams who braved the wet weather out at Whitemans Valley! As always, the crew from Hutt Valley Clay Target Club were fantastic hosts and helped to make this event so enjoyable.
See you again next year!
